After making a refrigerator full of pizzas last week, I almost forgot to post this one.

It’s funny how your taste buds change as you get older. For the first, oh, 25 years of my life the thought of pineapple on a pizza made me gag (and not many foods do). Then, somehow, the tables turned. Without notice I suddenly craved pineapple on pizza. Weird, I know but that’s also how I came to love V8 juice.

Anyway. Hawaiian pizzas (pineapple and ham) have sooo many possibilities. One of my favorites is to spice it up with a little bit of jalapeno, which I have done here. If you have a few extra pennies, buy some feta and sprinkle it on there for a little saltiness (salty, sweet and spicy is the triple threat of deliciousness).

If fresh jalapenos are a little too spicy for you, try pickled jalapenos instead. If ANY jalapeno is too spicy, use a little fresh red onion to juxtapose the sweet pineapple.

Fresh jalapeños play perfectly against the sweet pineapple in this Spicy Hawaiian Pizza. Sweet heat never tasted so good!

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Allow your pizza dough to come to room temperature if frozen or refrigerated. On a lightly floured surface, stretch the dough into a 16 inch round. Spray a perforated pizza pan with non-stick spray and sprinkle it lightly with corn meal (if desired). Transfer the stretched dough onto the pizza pan.
  • Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a one inch area of crust around the outside edge. Top with cheese, pineapple, diced ham slices and thinly sliced jalapeno.
  • Bake in the fully preheated oven (425 degrees) for 15-20 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Enjoy!

Slice the jalapeno and dice the ham slices. Avoid buying presliced deli/sandwich ham because it is usually quite expensive. I found this ham near the spiral hams and thick breakfast ham slices. It was nearly half the price of sandwich ham.

Unbaked Spicy Hawaiian Pizza
Top the pizza and bake at 425 degrees. The oven must be fully preheated before baking or else you’ll have crappy crust.

It’s no secret that I looooove pizza and coming up with new topping combinations. I’d love to hear all of the wild and crazy pizza topping ideas that you’ve had or even just your favorite combo.

My craziest topping (crazy and still delicious, I mean) is pickled vegetables. Yeah, sounds gross but it’s ooooh so good!

  1. Personally I call mine the Spicy White Hawaiian, white pizza with Ham(or bacon) pineapple and Banana peppers and/or jalapenos depending on how spicy you want it. I like the idea of adding a bit of feta do the cheese mix though to add some saltiness.

  2. I made this with canadian bacon instead, as I like the taste of it better. I know this might be more expensive though. But this is a great recipe!

  3. I was wondering how you keep your pizza from forming a HUGE greasy mess in the middle?

  4. try sliced green olives for the salty component, cheaper than feta and super delicious!!

  5. looks yum! I know this is old now and I’m late commenting, but try BBQ sauce instead of tomato sauce, or do a half and half (since bbq sauce is already tomato based).

  6. at a local pizza house named johnny’s (i know you’re from louisiana. do you have a johnny’s there? they’re so good.) i’ve started to get pizza with canadian bacon, ham, pepperoni and pineapple. the pepperoni gives it different kind of spice without the heat of peppers.

  7. Oooh, those all sound soo good! Another one we used to make was a Loaded Potato pizza… it started with a cream sauce instead of red sauce, hashbrowns (the diced kind), bacon, cheddar and green onions. mmMMmmm.

  8. This isn’t really weird, but I recently made a pizza with pineapple, mushrooms, green onion, and white onion. It was surprisingly delicious (for me, anyway – I normally require pepperoni on all pizzas).

I think next time I’m going to try and make a homemade Mac n’ Cheese pizza!

  9. Chorizo with caramelized onions and peppers, feta and mozzarella, light sauce. Super delicious! I break the chorizo apart and brown it, then caramelize the onions and peppers in the same pan. Great with chicken chorizo, less greasy too.

  10. A few years back I threw this together, when some vegetarian friends were coming for dinner: Sweet Thai Chilli Sauce (instead of a tomato-based sauce), chopped baby spinach, cooked chickpeas, rock salt and cheese. Yum.

  11. A friend makes a “big mac pizza” with thousand island dressing, fake ground meat (she is vegetarian), pickles, onions and cheese and then after baking adds shredded lettuce. Very odd, but certainly tasty!
