If you’re not too familiar with the Juneteenth holiday, don’t worry you’re probably not alone. Juneteenth (June 19, 1865) commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. Although the Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863, it took another two years before African American slaves in Galveston, Texas were finally freed.
Juneteenth was recently declared a United States federal holiday in 2021, but some states like Texas have been recognizing this holiday for decades. Now communities all over the country are celebrating this significant moment in history!
